WE MAKE CULTURE

making change through making music

music makers // talent developers // confidence lifters // community builders

We are a social enterprise, based in Sunderland, and we deliver high quality music-making programmes across the city.

Our mission is to bring people together through music-making, supporting the development of creative confidence and increasing people’s capacity to fulfil their potential and be heard.

Featured Projects

Young Musicians Project

Young Musicians Project enables young people (age 13-19) the opportunity to come together on a weekly basis to begin writing their own songs, and to take their first steps toward performing, producing and recording their own work.

YMP participants are supported to make links with the wider music community in the city and region: we work from the Field Music recording studio, perform at local venues such as Pop Recs and Independent and use local recording studios to record work.

Young Musicians Project is supported by Youth Music, SCOPS Arts Trust, Sunderland BID and Sunderland Music Hub.Via. Sunderland BID, this 3rd group part-funded by UK Government through UKSPF.

Thrive Project

The THRIVE project is a partnership between WWIN and We Make Culture CIC. Over the next 18 months, the organisations will work together to explore the impact of embedding music-making activities in domestic abuse settings. The aim of the project is to create positive, hopeful experiences for children, young people and mothers who have survived domestic abuse and to utilise the wellbeing boost that music-making can bring.

THRIVE Project is funded by Youth Music and builds on previous creative projects between the two organisations, including the Rising Up project which worked with adult domestic abuse survivors in WWIN’s Recovery Unit in 2022.

Lambton Street Music Project

We are excited to be working with Lambton Street Youth & Community Hub on our Lambton Street Music Project! Starting on 19th September, we will be delivering free music sessions for 11-19 year olds, from 5-7pm on Thursdays.

Sessions will be led by professional musicians and you can work toward performing and recording music. You don’t need to have any experience of playing music before, just an interest in giving music a try.
